Unlocking Pangi

Problem: The opening of the Atal Tunnel makes Pangi Valley, in the Trans-Himalayan region, suddenly accessible—risking mass tourism that could overwhelm its fragile ecosystem.

Insight: Pangi’s culture, biodiversity, and local knowledge are largely absent from maps and media, creating an opportunity to guide tourism toward sustainability rather than exploitation.

Solution: Unlocking Pangi leverages participatory mapping and community narratives to promote low-impact, nature-based tourism, empowering locals and their livelihoods while protecting biodiversity and redefining responsible exploration.
